For an enlisted infantryman your very, very smart!! U should have been snapped up by military intelligence, officer corps, one of the 3 letter agency's!! One of the best Ukraine/military bloggers on YouTube!! Keep up the great work Ryan!! From an ex British army, Royal corps of signal reg.

I appreciate that. No, never intel. I liked being an infantryman.

Hours of boardom, seconds of terror! I salute the Infantry, they make the world safe. Officers bark orders to infantry, but it's the non-coms who give the infantry the tools to make it happen.

Not what I heard when I was TAD to Brussels. You spelled Ryan with an "I" back then.

As in "I" Corps.

Much respect Ground Pounder!

I was a lifer too until my eyes went.

I fully agree with this wellspoken gentleman. Ryan M. you are smart as fuck.. pardon my french😎 Every time I want to know wtf is going on in the world , I think to myself. Hmm I better check out what Ryan M. has to say. As mentioned you are smart as fuck R.M.🫡 Greetings from B.R.Jørgensen. I was a lightmachine gunner in 5. Recon Squadron in the Garderhusars,Denmark. And I did a tour to Bosnia in 96' as Team 1.IFOR. That was a complete waste of efford, time, money and so on. We was there to stop people from killing eachother.. so far so good.. But when election time came around.. the locals started hanging up posters saying Vote for Karadich. I still find it hard to describe how disappointed I felt. People insisted to get fucked over by a massmurdere. Democracy works🤮

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran was just attacked by a lone gunman, killing the security chief

I think that is definitely a puzzle piece.

Definitely relevant! Azerbaijan have evacuated their embassies from Iran, and there were lots of shenanigans repatriating the body of the killed embassy security chief.

Sad, very sad

Thank you. This us the level of detail that is missing from mainstream media. Even if they mention HAROP, they would say that it's manufacturing in Israel and leave a very pregnant pause.

Thank you for your inspirational and informative comment on this but especially on the war in ukraine

Allow me to state for the record that I personally fired no drones and thus am not responsible.

Expand full comment

The lights don’t make sense though. I can’t see any light source on harop pictures and there’s no reason for it to have them. With that shape it could even be a rouge/stolen Shahed drone, though I can’t see lights on that one too.

Another option could be an F-14 sent to intercept, with its wings swept back.

it looks like reflection

Expand full comment

I'll second that...

Only an idiot would put lights on a Combat Drone that wants to not be seen...

High intensity lights can cause reflectiveness on surfaces not meant to be very reflective...

Expand full comment

Doesn’t look like there’s any distinct shape that would have such a strong and distinct reflection while keeping the rest dark, except for the camera and maybe motor.

As I said before, this light profile looks very similar to an F-14 with swept wings. Couldn’t find any pictures from below with lights on though, and I don’t have access to DCS currently

couldn't happen to a more deserving target. Any regime that would beat a Lil ole gal to death, on account of not wearing a scarf needs to go.

Expand full comment

No matter who launched this attack, it’s a pretty good way to try to disable Iran’s armaments industry, if that was indeed the target. Ukraine would definitely benefit from strikes like this. Perhaps this is a friendly foreign player like Turkey or Azerbaijan allowing their territory to be used as a launching point. Kurdish forces in Northern Iraq could also be behind this. Whoever it was/is, I wish them luck.

Expand full comment

Could be, but there is the range issue. I wish the WSJ would draw some circles. Could have been fired by Israel out of Azerbaijan.

Expand full comment

Israel could have an Air to Air drone refueling program quietly in the works. That can double or triple aircraft ranges.

Expand full comment

That is possible, and would make sense

Expand full comment

Or they could have a classified extended range version. That would make a sea launch possible.

"Shocking report just in, Islamic Republic blames Jews! " 😂 😂 😂

Well, Israel has great history of spying operations so it's not so far to think that this drone was launched from inside Iran. What do you think about that possibility?

Expand full comment

It's possible.

Expand full comment

Knowing IDF, we really don't know shit, I'd never rule them out.

Expand full comment

Great thought. But if it's indeed Israel, more likely from a ?friendly country closer to Iran.

Occam's razor... In a scenario with multiple probable causes, the simplest one is usually true.

Expand full comment

I have little knowledge within the world of Warfare. But I can't help but question why a covert drone operation, would have a drone with multiple underlying lights on, with the ability to give away intel on what type of drone it may have been, and open suspected targets. Unless its reflections, but I would also question why would it be so reflective?

From Canada, been in Armenia 2 years now. I've been to Artsakh 11 years ago.

1. Azerbaijan faked an incident at its embassy yesterday as a casus belli to evacuate their embassy completely before conducting this attack.

2. Iran has warned Azerbaijan repeatedly not to try and change the status quo in regards to the territorial integrity of Armenia proper. (This is the Syunik region, not Nagorno-Karabakh). Iran wants to maintain the status quo as it wants multiple borders to have access through the South Caucasus and onto Russia and the Black Sea. Azerbaijan annexing the Syunik region of Armenia would give Azerbaijan, and Turkey, (a NATO power) a monopoly of Iran's access routes, and hence has made it clear to Baku that this would be a red line for them.

3. Azerbaijan has a history of probing attacks against its enemy to see what its initial response will be. This is also a gesture to get on good terms with Western countries who dislike Iran for a whole host of reasons including nuclear proliferation, and supplying Russia with weapons.

4. Israel is concerned about Iran's nuclear proliferation and is seizing the opportunity to work jointly with Azerbaijan on this to capitalize on the world being distracted around the Ukrainian crisis.

5. Armenia does not operate these Israeli made drones. It's not supplied by Israel. They may have reverse engineered less than 2 or three, but they formally do not operate them in their arsenal.

Iranian National News interviewed the Embassy attack perpetrator right after the attacked on live TV and portrait him as a patriot. Your first argumant is flawed and biased, there is a logical fallacy in it.

Please be objective that way we can get closer to the truth together.

I am Azerbaijani from Azerbaijan :)

I am guessing you have Armenian blood or Armenian wife (Nothing wrong with that), And place where you have been illegally 11 years ago is called Karabagh.

1) How do you know that Azerbaijan has faked incident in embassy? any good sources you might want to share?

2) You are right that Iran's Mulla regime has warned Azerbaijan after 2020 war several times which provides motive for the terrorist attack in embassy in Tehran. However, Azerbaijan has recognized Armenia's borders and never wanted to annex any region of Armenia, moreover Armenia has SIGNED declaration that they will provide path from Azerbaijan to Naxchivan which they are refusing to do now. Also why are you defending Iran? I feel like you are just hating Azerbaijan rather than anything else.

3) Azerbaijan does not have enemies it had adversary: Armenia, with whom it had war so probing the country you have war with is logical. No other country, only Armenia. Also, Azerbaijan does not need to be in "good terms" with west. It is complete opposite it is west who wants to be friends with Azerbaijan because we have oil and gas also, we are the only access to central Asia which will provide west with ore energy.

4) Israel and Azerbaijan are strategic allies which is again more that logical.

5) It is not that Armenia does not have " Israeli weapons" it is that Israel refused to sell weapons to Armenia for obvious reasons.

P.S why did you write about Azerbaijan so extensively and try to make it look like a bogyman? I guess it is just because you hate Azerbaijan :D

WSJ is reporting that it was Israel. First one I've seen report that.

Honestly, that blurred drone picture looks a lot more like out going tracer rounds than a drone.

Look at the picture again, why would a kamikaze drone be flying to a target with lights on it's underbelly?
