I don’t think so, because if this were a case where they’re trying to avoid artillery fire, they are already in the impact area. So in that case, it would be better to just bum Rush the defenses, and get his clothes into the Russians as possible.

That makes sense, also possible they are baiting them to give away their positions in order to call in Arty/Mortar fire... But your explanation makes more sense since we never saw any of that occurring... And I'm sure this person would have filmed that as well...

I could see the Russians doing that, but the Ukrainians, I doubt it. If they dont know the enemy positions, they dont know if they have ATGMs or not either. It'd be a very expensive way of finding out. Ukrainian commanders can ill afford to do reconnaissance* (auto-correct) by fire with the same disregard for human life and material as the Russians have shown throughout the war.

That's why I said Ryan's assessment made more sense... Mine was just another possibility...

It's a good harassment move, give your guys time to get in and catch the bad guys in reaction mode.

How about 4-5 mortar shells. Save a lot of gas.

I do like the idea of getting just barely into direct fire range, laying down steady fire thus suppressing, then pulling back to cool the gun /reload and a partner takes over.

I too observed that tactic used in a demo. Like Ryan explained.
