Hi Ryan. Been watching your videos for a little while now and just subscribed to you as my first ever substack as I feel you really deserve it. Just wanted to say I really appreciate the time, effort and funding you put into your videos. I really enjoy the way you explain and present things. Sort of a "book for dummies" to the layman kinda way and I mean that with the utmost respect lol. Keep up the great work and I very much look forward to your future content!

ATF has previously said that electrically fired semi automatic guns are likely not legal as via software they are readily convertible to a machine gun. A software update/change could be placed on to the gun which allows it to fire in full auto. The Remington Model 700 Etronx was previously built to fire electronically but Remington built it as a bolt action based on guidance from the ATF that a semi auto electrically fired gun was likely legally a machine gun as it is "readily convertible" to a machine gun. Would have loved to see you address this. Also has BioFire received a determination letter from the ATF on the classification of this firearm as it regards to the National firearms act (NFA)?

That was very interesting and informative Ryan. Good job on your first journalistic experience!

"Fire by wire" sounds cooler than "Shoot by wire"

Having options like this in the market for anyone who wants to buy them sounds great.

Hope you do more of these types of videos.

Smartguns are both a wonderful idea, and a terrible Idea at the same time. I will never willingly buy one, nor carry one on duty ( I carry a gun for a living) because there are no foolproof biometrics, even when used in a combination. My own iPhone 11Pro I’m typing this on is living proof, that I wouldn’t want its majical working parts in a duty weapon or home protection device. The govt can cut cell communications at will in times of emergency, and you darn well know there will be a mandatory back door in the circuits of any civilian smart gun... to turn them off in a whole area. That was actually discussed with that German made .22 caliber semi automatic handgun of 14 yrs ago. My whole job these days is to counter an active shooter on a college aviation program campus... my Benelli M4 and Glock G22, and Ballistic shield is as dumb as any rock sample ( except for the shake awake on the Benelli’s red dot sight)

And I truly do prefer it that way. Can somebody get my service weapon away from me and end my life? Absolutely, and its been those stakes every moment of 40 years in a uniform. But getting ended because the electronic trigger is having a bad day... thats an easy fix( loud thunk as smart gun reaches the bottom of the office trash can) this is one element of failure I can eliminate from the start.

Really great piece Ryan. Your historical analogies and your ability to tell a story are great. Keep the content coming.

I ordered one based on your visit. I wont ever use it for self defense, as I have dumb guns for that, but find it interesting as a IT and gun guy.

Ryan. Great article. Does the Biofire take proprietary magazines or can I find replacement mags off the shelf?

Other than the legal issues surrounding an electrically fired pistol and the ease of modification of that, there's simply the question of reliability.

People load a pistol and will go months or years without checking it (yes, I know), and can generally have a high confidence it'll still go bang. When you also have to worry about a charged battery, sensors, and all the intervening electronics working right that ONE time you actually need it, a simple mechanical linkage sounds much better. What happens when you drop it, how many solder connections does that break? What about when you sweat on it?

Having a secondary wrist band, ring or other device to unlock it seems an equally bad idea. Since we know that things like that tend to disappear in the the moment you need it. Just ingraining the basics of draw, acquire, shoot under stress can be challenging enough without adding to the task loading.

*Maybe* this has application as a dedicated nightstand gun, something that can safely be left out if you have kids in the house, and can more easily stay clean, dry, and charged. But as a general carry pistol I can't see this being something to rely on.

Very informative piece. You made a good case for police and home defense use of this type of firearm. I agree that it’s a bit bulky for most concealed carry scenarios.

It is suggested by some that a handgun is not the best option for home defense because of over penetration (shooting through walls) and target acquisition. A shotgun would seem to be the better choice at home.

Of course it would be made more secure, especially with children in the home with this sort of mechanism.

Great work also always love the Regan part. Forgotten weapons did a video on this, and I find you even as enlightening since you had a bigger backstory basing and its explanation of the system. You're also weirdly not to off the euro stand on weapons. Would I feel more safe in America armed, yes? Would I do in Italy, not really? But It's still a tool for a job in an armed society, as your you need it for defense. Then it's the children issue and you explain it good. Like if you're having a weapon for defense, and not target shooting .it can't be in a safe, but if you're not having in the safe if you got kids around that a treat to everybody and irresponsible. This is deeply needed !!! Hope my rambling was okay and have a nice day, everyone.
