- The Hungarian firm appears to be an Israeli front. It's likely the pagers were never in Hungary to begin with.
- Lithium batteries do not explode, they burn, and the footage of the explosions does not line up with lithium fires
- The footage does match up with detonators, like Mercury fulminate (used in primers) or other blasting cap type materials which can be easily electronically detonated.
- It's likely these pagers had some arrangement of AAA sized batteries. Battery cases are hermetically sealed (often laser welded) and would present an ideal place to hide an explosive (you keep one battery functional while the other is the explosive). Since the batteries are the components with the single largest volume this in my opinion is the likeliest route.
There are, of course, a lot of ways to skin this cat, but by manufacturing the fake batteries ( or other components) in advance the assembly and cleanup time would be tremendously reduced.
The most interesting part is how the Isrealis we able to direct Hezbollah to a particular vendor at a particular moment in order to make sure they had control. If it were a movie nobody would believe it.
- “The Hungarian firm appears to be an Israeli front” Yes, exactly what I’m hearing as well. It’s looking like something Mossad (?) has been quietly putting together for months or years, recruiting partners from various telecommunications companies with an eye to the future. I posted a link below that’s worth checking out. It’s better than the average armchair opinion from all the talking heads out there.
>>"Set timer to detonate the ‘battery’ at a specific date and time."
It's unlikely this was a timer with date and time. It looks like the detonations were set off by a radio signal in the usual way pagers receive messages.
Ryan mentioned that the time and expense involved in manufacturing thousands of ‘adulterated’ pagers with special circuits, components and software might prove difficult to do in short order.
(Unless, of course, Israel made a bunch of these things months or years in advance of need and just stored them for a ‘rainy day’.
That’s what got me thinking...
Would it not be a lot more efficient use of a limited amount of time if all that had to be done during the manufacturing of a new batch of pagers is install some sort of ‘exploding’ battery in lieu of a regular one?
A digital timer with detonator would be put inside of an ordinary looking battery shell, along with whatever materials or methods that would cause the desired effect.
If two batteries are used in a pager, perhaps installed side by side, then the explosive mechanism might be divided between them, with timer and detonator in one battery...
... and some quantity of explosive material in the other...
... with enough (much smaller capacity) cells between the two batteries to run the pager for a couple of months.
These ‘exploding’ batteries might also find use in quite a few different kinds of battery operated devices.
Note:
If one wanted to make sure that a fair number of pager wearers would ‘pick up’ just before the explosion, then just figure out a way to ‘ring’ them in a normal fashion (no special codes required) a few seconds before the timer setting.
Space satellites and vehicles often use hypergolic thrusters, where two (very toxic and corrosive) liquid chemicals are combined in a relatively simple way to provide significant thrust.
These non-cryogenic chemicals must be handled carefully and stored in special tanks that will not corrode or leak.
An ‘exploding battery’ as described might contain tiny glass vials of hypergolic components that would shatter when struck by a primer charge.
A system that required two batteries to work might have hyperbolic components in glass vials divided between them.
Only one of the two batteries would need a timer plus a detonator big enough to shatter vials him both batteries.
I would think that hypergolic fuels sealed in glass would allow them to pass chemical detectors at airports, including trained dogs.
You might be right, especially the point about the difficulty of smuggling that amount of explosives into a third country.
BUT - the points you make about border control and flying feel a bit tainted with American/Western point of view on the world.
1. Americans (and you in particular, from following your channel) are used to flying a lot around. This isn't so common in countries like Lebanon or the middle east. Israelis fly a lot overseas but that's mostly on annual holidays not on a weekly basis back and forth between Tel-Aviv and... well there isn't much else to fly to domestically. So the argument that it's not likely that 5,000 team yellow members haven't boarded a flight is weak.
2. The pager carriers are members of Hizbullah, i.e. there is a good chance that they carry weapons and explosives on them to do... you know, shit that goes "kaboom" anyway, so an explosive hidden inside a tight plastic box could have been undetectable in the sea of other chemical noise around it.
3. It's likely that they wouldn't take the pagers with them when going overseas anyway because it's meant to be part of their "military" gear and they shouldn't be carrying around a pager that could say "hi, a message from Nassralah..." when going about in countries that would care about it.
4. The border control finding explosives is also not a strong argument - see how Team Yellow does in Lebanon whatever it pleases, smuggling tons of weapons on a daily basis through Syria or storing thousands of tons of explosives in Beirut's port (and threatening the judge who's investigating the explosion: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/we-will-remove-you-hezbollah-official-told-beirut-blast-judge-2021-09-29/). Even the Lebanese Army doesn't mess with them.
They are the ones who said that there were weapons of master destruction in Iraq even though there was none during the bush administration. They were the paper that was president. Cheney was given false information to and Used to start the Iraq war. So they are directly responsible for many American veterans deaths and innocent people passing away, which had nothing to do with the attack on United States on 911
I think a good argument could be made that striking directly at leadership and causing people to question the safety of their electronic devices would be worth the time and effort.
There are too many unknowns for me to comfortably say that PETN (or similar nitrate explosive) was or wasn’t used. That begs the question: how was it done? I’m not convinced that overloading a standard lithium battery could cause the wounds that have been inflicted without help.
Here are my questions:
When were the pagers purchased?
When were they distributed?
How did they get to Lebanon? Imported or smuggled?
How many people in Hezbollah travel outside the country on airplanes?
If they did fly, would they take their pagers too? This is an assumption: but if pagers were being used to thwart tracking, do you want the risk of being detained with a pager on you?
I think we can eliminate possibilities if we get answers to these questions.
cleanroom made batteries with a dual filling would be nearly undetectable, they are a sealed mylar pouch already, with a medium density material inside, matching the density of the explosive to the battery material would allow it to pass a lot of, but not all scans. they could be rigged to explode via the batteries normal temperature probing lines to complete the deception.
From what I have seen; the timeline for the altering of the pagers and radios possibly going back several years. I saw your video, Ryan where you doubted the explosive story because simply the logistics didn't seem correct. The weight of the explosive, etc. It would appear the Israelis manufactured both items as they set up a legitimate looking business. They even sold some of these items (not altered) in the course of operating that business. The altered ones had an explosive mixed in somehow with the batteries and it was said it was almost impossible to detect if checked. The radios appear to have had more explosive incorporated when they were manufactured. Probably because they are just physically larger. Ingenious and audacious.
Yeah, don't underestimate the power of capacitors. I used to pull them out of disposable cameras from the flash device as a kid and get them to detonate. I'm guessing you could pair them with a "special" lithium ion battery to really blow you a new hole!
So, you fall into the same trap the CIA does. You believe your doctrine is universal, it isn't.
1. As far as I know Israel owned the company that made the actual pagers, So the production issue is not issue.
2. I saw some of the videos, that wasn't an over loaded battery.
3. There are a number of possibilities with explosives, remember they were using a small charge of a highly powerful explosive. Whether those can be camouflaged from Airport scanners, I don't know.
Good post as always, Ryan. The Wall Street Journal had a long story on this today, tracking down all the various shell companies and mysterious personal associated with them. They had a diagram with these points:
1) There is enough space within each pager to insert a small amount of explosives. Only 2 to 4 grams of military-grade explosive is needed for the explosion seen in video
2) A handful of explosives could have been used, including PETN, RDX or HMX. These are highly explosive granular solids usually mixed with materials that make them safer to handle, often called plastic explosives.
3) These explosives can be detectable as they have chemicals that can be sniffed by dogs or identified by vapor sampling.
4) Explosives need a power source, which can be the battery of the electronic device, and a detonator. An alphanumeric code sent to the devices could have activated a microdetonator.
5) While not large, an omnidirectional explosion can cause serious injuries or fatalities because of proximity. Detonation waves move through explosive at about 6,000 meters a second. Fragmentation moves at about 1,000 meters a second.
Regarding airport security, having traveled in Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, one is often reminded in these places that you are not in Kansas anymore. Iran has pretty serious security because they have their own internal terrorism issues, but overall, those places are not Dulles International Airport, so I don’t think getting this kind of thing smuggled past is an issue.
The other thing is that Israel is a state actor with huge resources and absolutely no restraint due to ethical or human rights issues. They consider themselves in an existential fight, so the gloves are off. They do what they want. They tend to be very competent (not always, but usually).
Well I see your back to Splaining us again. I guess it would be tolerable if you weren't just splaining but were not trying to misinform. I guess you forgot that Hezbollah is a terrorist group proxy for Iran that has lobed 9000 missiles into Israel just because they don't like them. So Israel is not fighting a state actor but a dastardly terrorist organization that indulges in human trafficking among it's other crimes not just against Israel but humanity. Your delusion of saying that Israel has no restraint due to ethics or human rights is just your hypocritical hyperbole. Can you just stop!!! You're embarrassing yourself and your handlers.
That said this was a brilliant move that effectively targeted Hezbollah leadership and communications.
Craig! So nice to see you again. Your comments are adorable. I guess we'll just have to agree that you and I seen things just a teeny-weeny bit differently. Have a nice day!
Fast thinking, Ryan. I wouldn’t waste anyone’s time sending links from just anyone, but this ham-radio nerd has done some deep think thinking that you might find interesting:
Here is a really good article. Which further tells what happened. I think that the real effect is that the Ayatollah went to ground. They have figured out that they are vulnerable and they are scared. Bullies tend to be cowards. I think Sinwar is cowering in a hole scared that they know where he is and it's only a matter of time. All this to say only skilled engineers would be able to do what allegedly Israel did.
I can't find where it was that Ryan pointed out that in addition to the damage directly wrought by the exploding pages, this set of explosions marked exactly who all of the Hezbollah operators were, like the paint bomb in a bank heist that explodes all over the bank robbers, but as events unfolded in the week and a half following, I think was right. Marking another 5,000 Hezbollah members likely gave them invaluable intelligence that enabled the rapid fire elimination of the entire Hezbollah leadership. To talk about the timing of the pager attack being forced upon Israel because of the discovery of the plot, rather than as the opening Salvo of a massive ground operation was likely disinformation as well, to give Hezbollah a false sense of security, at least in the immediate term.
By the way, if you think it is unlikely that the Israeli security establishment could have disseminated this disinformation so effectively that no one suspected that it was an intentional leak, This is the strategy the Netanyahu has been using for decades in his internal political maneuvers. He has an entire ecosystem at this point designed to pump out whatever version of the world he sees fit; in Israel they call it מכונת הרעל, or "the poison machine" (there's probably a better translation but that's the gist). I am far from a Netanyu supporter, but it is good to see these mechanisms that he put in place for internal political gain used for the benefit of the country as a whole.
I doubt the batteries because they get replaced. In the 5 months since they were issued quite a few batteries have been replaced. I've never had a pager that I didn't have to replace batteries quite often back in the day. It would have to be something you don't replace. Am I missing something.
That said this was a brilliant move that effectively targeted Hezbollah leadership and communications.
These had rechargeable lithium batteries. So it’s unlikely any significant number were replaced in the past six months, and not impossible that the battery WAS the explosive.
Good Morning, one thing that I hope Americans understand is that the second largest number of Jews are in Iran the Iranian people are very pro Jewish. But being pro Jewish is different than being pro Israel.🙏🏽🙏🏽

Greetings...
Having adulterated batteries make sense.
Just ship cases of altered batteries to the factory. and just have them installed as a regular part of the manufacturing process.
The batteries would be made to be identical to normal batteries.
The inside of the battery might have a micro circuit that has a simple pre-programmed date/time function in addition to a ‘detonator’ mechanism.
This micro circuit timer/detonator might be the the size of a hearing aid battery, and easily fit inside a standard sized battery case.
At any rate...
Set timer to detonate the ‘battery’ at a specific date and time.
Then figure out a way to page everyone a few seconds before ‘zero time’, using normal pager radio protocol, to get them to answer their pagers.
This method might eliminate having to add extra circuits, components, software to an already existing pager design.
‘Just add batteries’ and yer golden!
If this sort of ‘battery bomb’ was possible, there would be no end of possibilities where all that is required is to just install a battery!
At any rate, just a thought....
Stay Well

Yes, super interesting. Thanks!
I'll give it a try.
You are so far off base here it’s hard to even know where to start.
The COMPANY that sold these pagers to Hezbollah was an Israeli front. They didn’t “intercept” the pagers. They MADE the pagers in the first place!
All information is scrubbed but about 25 years ago a new family of more energy dense explosives was announced “plastids”Process was complex so I assume expensive.
But, the NTSB has worked diligently to identify a catalog of many thousands of detonable materials. The chief scientist, a Lady, explained that many, many, surprises happened when they tested different compounds. I will assume these plastid compounds are in that list. The sniffer machines have every one of those compounds in the library. A person close to the field explained to me that even very low volatility compounds (such as tannerite made from fertilizer, aluminum powder, and perchlorate- all low vapour pressure), will be picked up say on a luggage handle a month after someone picked up the container then touched the suitcase handle. All this to say only skilled engineers would be able to do what allegedly Israel did.
