I think 2 is the way to go. 1 and 3 I think are generic photos of equipment. 2 seems like it was chosen specifically and leads me to want to know why you would pick that 1911 from any other 1911.
A good portion of the plot is about the Valverde Cartel trying to take over Southern California as their own little fiefdom. Many cartel sicarios use ornate M1911A1s chambered in 38 Super.
I understand the cultural significance of the ornate m1911a1 to sicarios which is why I would pick up the book. Not only is it a m1911a1 but a specific one that tells a story all on it's own. I think 1 and 3 are missing individuality. That could just be because I am not familiar with missiles or AMX-10 RCs. If 1 or 3 had a minor detail that related to the story I think it would better grab my attention. Something like "FURY" written on the side.
I just bought your books, and like the imagery of the pistol in #2, which would be my first choice. Second choice would be #1 and lastly #3. Kudos for writing a sequel to "The last Republic. I'm even more excited to finish reading it, knowing its continued on. All the best.
I vote for #1. It grabbed my attention over the others. Plus, since it is a book, shouldn't it have something kind of similar to a Booker on the front? :D
I think all three are weak, but the pistol is the best. The yellow is terrible, if it is a flag reference, figure out a way to use the flag. The pistol is the most interesting image because of the religious insert, and I think you may be too literal about connecting the story to the cover. The purpose of the cover is to grab interest in a book store or web search, so the impact of the image is more important making it perfectly represent the story.
Awesome. Spoke with my Uncle who lives in the area today and I could hear Thai Rocket Fire in the Background, so stuff is still definitely happening. Looking forward to your analysis 🙂
1st cover with the armor takes my vote, fits nicely and if that image alone deters the reader, I don’t think any amount of pages regarding F-16s or firefights would interest them either. Get some idea what you’re in for. 2nd one is cool and probably what I’d take home tho. Give C.W lemoine a shout for a beta reader, pilot and fellow publisher.
I've never written a book, but I suspect that a cover is meant to attract the attention of shoppers in the bookstore. Ideally, it shouldn't be an image that someone has a very strong negative reaction (as they might not pick up the book and figure out if they want it). You can be very explicit with what the book is about (as your cover ideas suggest) or you can go metaphysical.
I really like options 1 and 3 though I think that the composition of overall image is more sensible for 1. 2 is risky in case someone thinks you are making fun of religion or something like that (which I am sure you are not). Final vote is 1.
Beyond that, love the color palette you are going with.
Well, a major plot point in the book is the Valeverde Cartel and their efforts at essentially stealing Southern Deseret (Southern California). Cartel sicarios often carry very ornate M1911A1 pistols chambered in 38 Super typically with religious emblems on the grip. One of my main characters executes a man with one in the first chapter.
But thanks, The yellow is one of the colors of the Deseret flag.
#1, maybe with more men marching along side, or riding on vehicle. Maybe some one their knees, prisoner's position surrendering in front of vehicle, if that is in the story.
#2 - I get the cartel reference, but I think the mix of religious imagery on a firearm speaks to the 'mixed messaging' of war and service.
Agree - #2 is the standout
this
Cover #2

FWIW, cover #3, IMHO, portrays the modern aspects of conflict - anonymous, impersonal, accelerated and indiscriminate, hence it is my choice…

2 seems to be the best. The yellow background is a no go, maybe red or orange.

A hand gun is much more personal. For me, there is a bit of a disconnect between the title and the other two options.

I'm leaning towards #2 Ryan. Something Something Religion and Conflict.
Any chance of a video on the Border Clashes between Thailand and Cambodia and what a possible escalation might mean for the wider region?
soon. Like literally in minutes.

2 much more interesting then the other options. more likely to attract the eye and possible buyer

Very cool.
Speaking of, Eastern European gangsters often adorn themselves with large gold crosses (hanging on thick neck chains).
