Ryan, I greatly appreciate the still photo analysis, and the story that you are helping to tell. I think Ernie Pyle would be proud of the type of journalism. I won't watch the video, I've seen enough people die in real life, and it won't change my mind about Russia's decisions or actions in this war. Each week I contact the offices of my member of the House of Representatives and my two Senators to let them know that as a taxpaying and voting US citizen I want US foreign policy to include full support for the people of Ukraine. Keep up the thoughtful and detailed work. It adds value to the conversation, and like all good journalism it takes time and money to do it properly. I'd much rather subscribe to this and wait for my news than watch a 24 hour channel. Your service, STRATFOR, and the Economist are worth every dime of subscription fee. With gratitude, Gordon.

Add this to the list of atrocities committed by Putin’s goons.

There are soldiers like this on both sides. I'm not against one more than the other, but my heart goes out to all the soldiers on both sides that have been forced into the situation of killing and to the civilians.

Ukraine is investigating an incident where Russian soldiers were executed when trying to surrender.

I doubt the invaders will expend much energy investigating this barbaric act. Beware of tu quoque comparisons.

This makes my blood boil. They’re Animals and the they should be treated as such. After this and other atrocities, I’m not far away from recommending collecting scalps. But that would put “the good guys” on their level.

How can anyone watch this and not see the evil being committed by Rus. I’m conservative and it makes me angry to see these taking heads bash supporting Ukraine. Especially after these atrocities. Send more and send it yesterday. God I can’t wait to see a video of a column of Challengers, Leopards and Abrams rolling up on Russians lines

Be sure not to watched the one of orcs castrating a captured Ukrainian soldier.

Made me sick and furious. Seems like this behavior is endemic with the orcs.

Could only watch the video once, like this one.

My heart goes out to the Ukrainian defenders, their families, their friends, and the people of Ukraine.

So it makes sense why MAGA loves Putin, right?

Franklin Carroll's avatar

Maga does not love Putin. While I disagree with them, the argument is that our efforts will prolong the war without changing the outcome and is costing us money. Truth be told, most of the Maga types are reacting to the social signaling on social media: Jordan Peterson admitted that he had an instinctive reaction to all the Ukrainian flags being posted by people who know nothing about Ukraine. It was interesting to see Peterson admit that he does not understand the situation.

Almost everyone is wrong on this. The Rand Paul/Maga wing is wrong to concede and sounds moronic when they go on about the rather marginal cost associated with helping Ukraine. Joe Biden is wrong to fear escalation to the point of not really giving Ukraine what they need to win. Absent giving Ukraine WMD's, I think all concerns about escalation are exaggerated: Russia will use tactical nukes before using strategic nukes. So why not give all the aid you want until you see Russia cross that line?

Truth is, the Maga people are mostly idiots and the people posting Ukrainian flags, while well meaning, are idiots too. The vast majority of them had no understandiing of the situation in Russia. They are geopolitically ignorant.

Agree w/ some of what you wrote. Russia feels comfy using nukes, likely tactical, b/c the MAGA party has emboldened Putin. It’s no coincidence that Tucker Carlson features so prominently on RT/Russian propaganda. I disagree that folks w/ a Ukrainian flag are fools as you suggest. Perhaps they’re just folks like me who saw Putin illegally and immorally invade a sovereign nation w/ the goal of genocide. I guess Putin will have to settle for war crimes. Glory to Ukraine!!!

TY Sir! I was tempted to respond also, but am glad you did seeing as I'm going to be a while calming myself down after seeing this video and would have been far less diplomatic about my response...

Are you being serious with your “what” comment? It’s almost as if you’re willfully blind regarding what FOX has been saying for over one year. Did you miss DeSantis saying it’s merely a territorial dispute. Did you miss Orange Caligula saying Putin is a genius - that happened yesterday. Maybe go play your obtuse games somewhere else? Be well.

Please copyright “orange Caligula”, it captures the essence so well. Here in Canada we have “Selfie the Clown” or “baby-T” ( the latter a reference to his father pierre Trudeau and baby doc Duvalier crackpot dictator of Haiti).

I’d love to claim Orange Caligula as mine but dignity requires full disclosure. That gem belongs to Charlie Sykes from the Bulwark podcast. The reason it’s funny is b/c it’s true. Thanks for the kind comment. Take care.

Ok, Putin lover. Maybe now’s a good time for you to bugger off? No addled defense of your Orange Caligula? You’ll never earn your MAGA badge that way, Cletus. Remember the buggering off part, ok? Do it now. Right now

I just don't see why the Republicans are calling for pulling support for Ukraine.

If I was a Ukrainian soldier I would not surrender to Wagner. I’d use a rock or knife to charge at the last to make sure this stuff didn’t happen. Long ago I spoke with a Dutch man who fought Japanese in WW2. He explained they made pacts to ensure none would be taken alive. Including charging with grenades at zero fuze in hand. Soldiers already accepting death are much harder to fight as an added bonus.

Yes it’s Wagner but it’s not a “pmc” in a strict sense . It is an integral unit of the ruzzian fascists forces.

This is just atrocious. I won’t watch it. However, it reminds me of one of the first videos I ever saw on the internet, from the Russia/Chechen War. I’m not sure who did what, but someone had a soldier on the ground, put their boot on their head, inserted a knife into their throat behind their windpipe, and pulled it forward, ripping the front of their throat out. It still scares me to this day. I hope that someone holds Russia accountable for all the atrocities and when this is over, doesn’t immediately welcome Russia back into the world organizations.

Oh gosh, this was so difficult to see. Real life is totally different from the movies. This is why when soldiers return, they are not the same person that left. I do remember Arnold Swartzenager (I can't spell) talking of how the veterans would go to the bar every night to drink, and also hit their wives and children. It was not just those who saw comrades killed, it was those that did the killing. They banded together, aware of what they had done, and drank and bragged but knew outside of their group, what they had done was unacceptable to humanity. Kill someone, but to do it in such an awful dramatic manner, that's not a controlled and honorable military, that is barbarism and a sign of loss of control.

I have so many thoughts running through my head right now I cannot muster a thoughtful answer to anything I just saw... Russia! You will be a very long time living down this War just like the Nazis after WWII...

I really expected this to turn out a fake, otherwise I would not have watched it...

I'm sorry you had to in order to report on it... :(
