I like that Ryan pointed out that the lines between drones and cruise missiles are being blurred.
I was hoping for some AI talk though...
Drones, Drones, Drones. long read.
Ugh, all the continued talk about "AI". "AI" DOES NOT EXIST, in any form. A machine that follows set programming, regardless of the set in stone "options" programmed into it is NOT artificial intelligence. The businesses taking advantage of people using the hyped term "AI" is cleaning out plenty of bank accounts, both individual and country.
Drones and robots on the battlefield will be using set in stone programming and none of these will execute any command other than what has been programmed into it's options package based on the set programming by a Human. Stop using the term "decisions or choices" "AI" can do nothing of the sort, only available options programmed in can be used.
The biggest example I can give is a FAKE scenario for those blinded by the term "AI". A group of russian garbage infantry huddled around a bunch of civilians ACTUALLY helping and providing first aid for the first time in their miserable russian lives instead of using them as Human shields. Even though the russian rabble are now doing the unthinkable, actually helping civilians instead of killing them...the "AI" controlled drone above them and the two robot twin .50 cal 4 leg stalkers newly released on the front line coordinating between the three to verify a target only sees one thing, a target package that was programmed into it. It will hit and kill the russian soldiers and the civilians and kill them all, never thinking, never wondering, never making a choice because it/they cannot, even in simple situations like the scenario I just gave. No amount of options programmed into the "AI" will be able to make moral choices. EVER.
Robots and drones are being used in Ukraine because neither side can gain air superiority and suppress anything. The USA will NEVER fight a war like Ukraine is doing with russia, using drones and suicide drones to whittle away what they can. We need to be developing radar or something like time retarded scanning to detect and kill these drones and robots that other countries will use, that is the priority, not making the drones and robots themselves. Drones and robots need to be obsolete on the battlefield before the idiots in charge forget about denying use of these tools for other bad actors.
The hype surrounding "AI" on the battlefield is just that hype, to gain funding, to deceive investors by shoving that overused term on them until they happily, blindly open their wallets. Put the term "AI" on a cereal box, it will be sold out by noon, on toilet paper rolls...same thing.
**Off into the weeds a little bit. Personal rant, stop reading as this does not pertain to the Drone issue. I have to rant a bit.
It is a damn shame what our (United States) government is doing to Ukraine. Using Ukraine as a test bed, handing old tech to Ukraine at a snails pace instead of supporting what could be one of the strongest allies we have on this planet bar none. Instead we have a bunch of scared politicians controlling our country, afraid of their own shadows, worried about their own re-elections and investments in russia. A whole lot of senators and congressmen have portfolios heavy in russian oil and gas, tell me I am wrong.
To top it off we have a waiting game for the presidential election to finish because my country cannot get off it's ass and decide if it is a moral country, or whatever scenario these two very poor choices for presidential candidate want to push, it disgusts me.
I wonder if France had decided the fledgling USA was not worth it's "interest" to defend. Did I just go off topic a bit? Lol.
