Since the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran has engaged in an aggressive foreign policy, supporting proxies and proxy conflicts across the Middle East.

Iran helped found Hezbollah in Lebanon during the early 1980s, but this organization often operates separate from Iran as its own self-sustaining entity.
