Is there such a thing as a “YouTube accent”?
A few days ago, I posted a video speaking in my original New Jersey accent, and it surprised a lot of people. The truth is, I don’t just have one voice. I’ve got four: my Jersey accent, my Maryland speech voice, my YouTube performance voice, and my news voice.
In this video, I break down why the “YouTube voice” exists, how I was literally sent to a communication class for sounding “disrespectful,” and how staying in character for hours can be exhausting. I also read the famous “Stella passage” in all four accents so you can hear the differences yourself.
I’m supporting $10,250 a fundraiser for generators and cold-weather gear for Ukraine. If you’d like to help, you can donate here.
