How good was the Iranian air defense? How much of an advantage did the F-35 give them, and what could be improved?

If you can, talk to the ground crews. During those 12 day they were Busting Their Humps keeping the planes flying.

Not a question, just a comment. Thank you for being on the front line fighting the scourge of modern civilization.

What does their killchain look like specific to the air assets, especially any differences that have been made because of / over the course of the conflict? I ask as Ukraine had some innovations and I bet Israel did too.

I have a theory that Operation Lion ended not because Israel wanted to stop bombing Iran, but rather that the logistical and maintenance hurdles of maintaining the pace of bombing were too great, and most of the high-value targets had already been hit. What is the opinion of the air maintainers about the sustainability of the pace of Operation Lion? Could Israel have kept going or was it getting close to its logistical limit?

I would’ve assume that that too

I was more under the impression that it was ended prematurely by Trump. Having watch Isreal take care of Hezbollah and the way they moved against Iran I imagine then had a full on plan for regime change that got interrupted. Cheers.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about that. It's possible that behind closed doors the US threatened to pull ISR-via-satellite aid from Israel, which would have made the air war much more difficult to prosecute.

But the way that the ceasefire was announced seemed very...how do I put this? It seemed like something Trump made up on the spur of the moment that both parties eventually agreed to because they had their own reasons to stop fighting. Israel because of the logistic hurdles (maybe) and Iran because it was getting its a-- kicked.

But just because it seems that way doesn't make it true. I don't have enough information to know what happened, so I have questions.

Looking Forward To This!

AIR FORCE! We're the smart ones. Send The Officers Out To Fight.

As the Democratic Party in the United States, and other world leaders turns further and further against Israel and the Jewish people, is there any conceivable future where Israel can be "weapons independent" and if so, to what extent?

I’m not sure that’s a question that a fighter pilot can answer but I can try

What’s the one thing you wish civilians understood about what you just did?

As an aircraft mechanic myself and a crew, chief, although on the rotary wing side, I am sure they had some kind of bump plan.

What was their go or no go launch criteria? How many aircraft failed to start procedures and end up bumping to a back up aircraft? Were there any primary crews that got sideline because their aircraft failed and didn’t takeoff?

How far in advance did they have an idea of where (i.e., Iran) they were going to attack, and what kind of training for that mission (1) had they already had, and (2) did they undertake once this mission was defined to them?

The name of the air base is Kha-tseyr-IM. The initial kh sound is guttural, somewhat like clearing your throat.

Not a question either, just a nod for your transparency and disclosure - ideally y’all will not ever feel coerced by those giving you a paycheck, to pervert your sense of facts, truth, accuracy, accountability and transparency… in these times, character (personal integrity, moral and ethical standards, as evidenced by words/behaviors/actions) is pretty much the only litmus test that we have left… just sayin

I have never once been told what to say. They really don’t care but I don’t do political stuff. I just do military stuff and they just want the facts. There isn’t a lot of wiggle room on why weapons work or to make it political it’s just the way it is.

And hence why I am a “founding member”… y’all be safe on your travels

Without the F35 could they have done this with F15/16 variants they have?

Scott's avatar

I would ask them about the differences between the F35's that the US uses, and their F35i variant that only Israel has, and whether those differences were helpful, hindering or neither for this operation.

Also, I'd ask them about the peripheral info regarding the ordnance they used in "beast mode" and how that performed in their opinion.

The interwebs has people talking but getting the pilot's firsthand perspective could be enlightening.

Was there any level of autonomy given to the pilots or small groups to execute beyond the specific mission? Was there any gray zone to instructions?

What SEAD Tactics and assets were deployed? Any blacks ops to disrupt IADS Communications involved?

What was your major concern about flying the mission, air defense, fuel, fear of capture, or distance and overall difficulty of the mission?
